All the Hype for Netflix's Glass Onion....is it worth it? YES!
Push aside those Christmas movies of generic European castles with princes and overworked city womenfolk falling in love or talking snowmen for a more enticing movie this season. Glass Onion has no snow, no Christmas, no miracles but it has tons of humor, mystery, and flawless visuals.
The Hype: Character Posters delivering the visuals
Glass Onion is the follow up to Rian Johnson's Knives Out where we follow Detective Benoit Blanc (played by Daniel Craig) to Greece. After receiving mysterious elaborate puzzle boxes hiding invitations, Detective Benoit Blanc along with six other guests are sent to a private island owned by mega tech billionaires Miles Bron (played by Edward Norton). Under glass domes and robotic luggage carriers, the group is to partake in an extravagant murder mystery party. As can be expected, it doesn’t go well.
It has been a few years since Knives Out was released, so Netflix released several key promotions to build up the hype.
The first hype was the release of bright and eye-catching character posters. The casting for Glass Onion was beyond delightful.
Kathryn Hahn had already become an instant personal favorite for her role as Agatha Harkness in Wandavision. She brings that same hardcore boss energy with charismas as a politician obsessed with her public image.
Kate Hudson still stunned with the looks as the aging and clueless influencer while delivering golden funny moments. It was also amusing to see actress
Madelyn Cline still rocking out bikinis since that was pretty much her standard attire as Sarah Cameron in Outerbanks.
Each of the characters in the “disruptors” were presented as shallow archetypes of a modern version of Clue. As the movie progresses, we see that the connections between all of them go much deeper and rancid than a bunch of friends to a tech billionaire. Plenty of comedic moments that also carried messages of toxicity of gaining power.
Even though Daniel Craig was the main visual headliner for the movie, he definitely not the main star or focus of the movie. It was all held on the shoulders of Janelle Monae. As she walks into each scene wearing jawdropping fashion, her character is the most disruptive force of all within the glass walls.
The Hype: Detective Benoit Blanc is AMONG US
Netflix announced that Detective Benoit Blanc would be appearing in the popular game AMONG US. Which was a curious collaboration move between Netflix and Innersloth. After watching the movie, it makes sense and it’s a pretty cute idea.
Players can log in now on Among Us until January 10, 2023 to automatically get their free Benoit Blanc skin.
The Benoit Blanc skin will be wearing the the blue and white striped seersucker shirt and matching shorts and accessorized with a sporty yellow floral bandana. .

The Hype: Glass Onion Experience
Netflix is known to create and host elaborate experiences in connection to a movie. They’re free to the public and reservations disappear quick.
The Glass Onion experience was headquartered on Melrose Ave in Los Angeles. After a wait, reserved guests were lead to a lounge area and given soft silicone wristbands. Immediately the aesthetic was made to invoke the lounge of a Greek villa with plants and a recurring video of a flamingo floaty in a pool. As we waited for our bracelets to activate, we were able to enjoy complimentary beverages. It felt like summer in the LA winter while sipping an Island Breeze.
Once the bracelets activated, we were briefed to embark on a game hosted by the tech billionaire. Each room hosted puzzles and challenges for the group to solve within the allotted time slot. Our group was full of determined players but we failed to win!
With each failed puzzle, two of the members were randomly chosen to be pulled out of the game. Guess who was randomly chosen?! It actually turned out that it was better for those who “failed” because we got to see a hidden corridor of goodies.
This adventure was experienced before watching the movie so we knew none of the references. It was still a completely fun and unique way to keep the interest in the movie strong. For we definitely changed our weekend movie plans to watch Glass Onion on Netflix immediately.
It was a fantastic choice made for the holidays. It was not just entertaining but it also kept us engaged as we threw out guesses and theories. We were mostly wrong but still immensely satisfied with the end.
Here are more images from the Glass Onion experience. See how quickly you catch their reference in the movie!
Glass Onion is out now on Netflix.
