Coming Soon to Netflix
So much to watch, so little time, so few moods to deal with it all. It can all just be completely overwhelming and a little bit of help to change that “recommended algorithm” is useful. Here are some things on Netflix that you may be in the mood for.
In the mood…..for Wes Anderson:
Official Synopsis:
“A beloved Roald Dahl short story about a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes and then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling.”
Trailer Reactions:
I may not always understand a Wes Anderson movie (still ruminating about Asteroid City) but darn do I enjoy the visuals and mixed media art. Plus the movie has Richard Ayoade (IT Crowd) and that’s always a major draw to the work

Premieres September 27, 2023
In the mood for…a documentary:
Official Synopsis:
“Yellow Door: ‘90s Lo-fi Film Club is a documentary film that revisits the era of avid film lovers who became the first generation of Korean cinephiles by tracking the memories of “Yellow Door Film Club” members, who also recall their impressions of Director Bong Joon Ho’s first short film.
In 1993, a young Bong Joon Ho was part of the “Yellow Door Film Club,” where cinephiles’ sole passion was cinema, and managed the video library of global masterpieces.
The documentary film Yellow Door: ‘90s Lo-fi Film Club will be released on October 27th, telling the story of the film club “Yellow Door,” whose members are the sole viewers of Director Bong Joon Ho’s unreleased first short film, Looking for Paradise
Trailer Reactions:
Just like the rest of us outside of Korea, I’ve become a fan of Bong Joon Ho with his film “Parasite.” Whatever viewers may view of the film, it ricocheted recognition of Korean filmmakers to a whole new international level. To know that his journey to this point was from being part of a film club is fascinating. To even learn that there was a trend of film clubs in the 90’s makes me immensely jealous. Let’s restart that trend!

In the mood for…comedy:
Official Synopsis:
“Obliterated is a high octane action-comedy that tells the story of an elite special forces team who thwarts a deadly threat to Las Vegas. After their celebratory party, filled with booze, drugs and sex, the team discovers that the bomb they deactivated was a fake. The now intoxicated team has to fight through their impairments, overcome their personal issues, find the real bomb, and save the world.”
Trailer Reactions:
There are plenty of action movies where the heroes defuse a bomb. Everyone has their favorite one. To see how these heroes handle a bomb while hungover sounds incredibly fascinating. It will be curious to hear how real-life bomb defusers will react to this movie.
