Getting to know artists at DesignerCon 2022
DesignerCon 2022 was back at Anaheim this year and it was just full of STUFF. The convention took up two full rooms packed with artists, collectibles, installations, and cars. Stepping into the floor was just an overwhelming visual smorgasbord of colors and figurines.
At the heart of DesignerCon are the artists themselves. There were over hundreds of artists to see at the convention who showcase various mediums from print to figurines. Out of that number, we focused on two that stood out from the crowd.
Featured Artist: Allison Bamcat
This year, we got to meet and interview one of DesignerCon’s featured artists. From the snippet seen in the conventions poster, Bamcat is known for bright and mesmerizing creature designs.
Since she was featured so prominently on the billboards and site, she was one of the first artists to come up on the radar. It was the super bright color composition that drew the eye and the need to know more about her.
Allison Bamcat is local to Southern California and showcases her arts around the area. She discussed her mural project at the Lancaster Museum of Art History and her love of clementines in demon form. Plus her continued love of pokemon and Lisa Frank reflecting in her art is just the cherry on top.

Meeting Andrew was one of the most refreshing moments of DesignerCon. The hours of walking up and down the floor placed the overwhelmed in a mind-numbing state. While waiting for a friend, the eyes went towards a very cutely decorated retro booth. While pondering at the pins, Andrew began a pleasant conversation and his enthusiasm for his creation, Spaceboi was so rejuvenating. He agreed to an interview and it was one of the most pleasant conversations.
Spaceboi is Andrew’s creation is his nostalgic homage to all the heroes in space from his childhood like Megaman and Ultraman. Each of his the figurines were hand-painted and the color scheme is a slight homage to pokemon trading card in the variant choices. Pokemon really did have a huge cultural impact on the generation!
