Major JROCK news: YOSHIKI, HYDE, SUGIZO and MIYAVI announce their band THE LAST ROCKSTARS.
The most major of all JROCK (“Japanese Rock”) dropped upon fans all over the world this past weekend. Four of the rockstars have joined their mega legend power to create the super group THE LAST ROCKSTARS.
YOSHIKI, HYDE, SUGIZO, and MIYAVI collectively shoulder a huge history of JROCK between them. Each has been known or have been involved in being an influence upon the JROCK scene. Fans have always considered the possibility of combining these talents together and now it has come to fruition.
With the news of the band also came an teaser music video (see below) and tour dates. From the teaser video, it’s already going to be something amazing to behold.
Who are the legends?
YOSHIKI has diverse and colorful history from leading and drumming for pioneering JROCK/metal group X Japan to performing a concert for the Emperor of Japan. His piano compositions have accompanied by other legends such as Sarah Brightman and is the official theme song for the Golden Globe Awards. A snapshot of his history can be seen on the documentary We Are X (2016) and on My Music Story: Yoshiki on Disney+.
HYDE has the distinction of being the first rock band to headline Japan National Stadium and selling over 40 million albums worldwide,headlined Madison Square Garden, and were alsothe first rock bandto headline Japan National Stadium. HYDE has also had great success touringinternationally as a solo artist.
His U.K.’s JUNO REACTOR group is credited with creating psychedelic trance. For his soloist work, he brings his unique style of electronic music for multiple movie and theater soundtracks.
MIYAVI has been nicknamed “The Samurai Guitarist” with his unconventional but signature “slap style” of playing his guitar. His style which has taken him around the world 9 times to tour in over 30 countries. In 2014, he made his acting debut in the movie Unbroken. He was also the first Japanese public figure to be featured in GUCCI’s global campaign, and has been appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for UNCHR, providing support for refugees.
